Employee-initiated arrangements
Financing your training
CPF, or personal training account
The CPF scheme enables French employees to acquire training entitlements that they can then use throughout their working life.
As of January 1, 2019, the CPF is counted in euros (and no longer in hours): €500/year (capped at €5,000) and €8,000/year (capped at €8,000) for non-qualified employees (holding a diploma at below level 5).
Training can take place:
- During working hours: your employer's consent is mandatory
- Outside working hours: you do not need your employer's consent to enroll in or take a training course
For non-salaried workers (self-employed workers, professionals and members of non-salaried professions, artists, authors or assisting spouses), the CPF account will be credited in 2020 on the basis of your activities in 2018 and 2019. If you have any questions, please contact the relevant Fonds d'Assurance Formation (FAF) (training fund) for your type of profession.
If you have not accrued sufficient CPF hours to take a training course, you can ask your employer or your OPCO (Opérateur de Compétences, the State-certified organization that supports professional training) to allocate additional entitlements to top up your CPF training entitlements.
To find out your training entitlements, i.e. the amount available to finance your training under the CPF scheme, you will need to set up an account on the dedicated website: Mon compte activité.
The training courses must qualify participants for a certificate, be eligible for the CPF scheme and be registered on the RNCP (France's national register of professional certificate courses).
